Teen suspended for speaking Spanish at school. Time for some administrators to learn a new language.

    That really pisses me off. As the article says, bilingual people should be considered an asset. I'd bet if he'd been speaking German this wouldn't have happened. It's just prejudice.

    I agree. I would be utterly horrified if bilingualism were held against Sonbeam! Having said that, certain private schools (Korean, American, Norwegian, German) in Japan have a strict monolingual policy, both in the classroom and in the playground. I think it's necessary in those cases, otherwise the kids would lapse into speaking Japanese all the time - after all, they do live here.

    But I cannot imagine a Japanese school in Japan banning kids from speaking any other language in their free time!
